Very nice and unusual sided * or kick fist prehistoric stone from Carnac area (Morbihan, Brittany).

This biface is in good condition, it is in its own juice.

A note: some chips and wear on the stone, good looking photos.

_______________________

* A two-sided tool is cut characteristic of the ancient prehistoric stone periods. In Europe, it appeared to the lower Paleolithic. It is especially characteristic of the Acheulean, but is still present in the Middle Paleolithic, during the Mousterian. Older bifacial were discovered in East Africa, particularly in the Olduvai site Tanzania (1.6 million years) and 4 Kokiselei on the shores of Lake Turkana in Kenya (1.76 million years). The word "two-sided" was proposed in 1920 by A. Vayson of Pradenne to replace the phrase "Kick fist", previously introduced by G. Mortillet. The biface is achieved by gradual shaping of a block (or a big burst) of raw materials, detaching chips on both sides. It usually has some bilateral symmetry and possibly a bifacial symmetry that could be interpreted as the first manifestations of aesthetic concerns.
