Inkwell bronze (silver and brown patina) representing four characters, symbols of the four continents, supporting on their shoulders an armillary sphere, a finely carved shelf and perforated shells decor stylized and scrolls and floral arabesques and fruit clusters, signed bronzier Lerolle Brothers *, of XIXth century.

This inkwell is in good condition and is of high quality. It has its domestic glassware.

The circumference of the sphere is engraved with the names of the zodiac signs (pisces, virgo, gemini ...); some are worn and unreadable. The movement of the characters that appear to dance symbolizes the rotation of the Earth.

* Lerolle Brothers (act.1836-1863):


The Lerolle brothers, who succeeded their father in 1836, fell in 1837 the work of Dantan entitled "Mrs. Alexis Bridge in the Styrian not." After 1850, they embarked on the production of bronze plating and imitation, but still appear as bronze casters in 1863. They took part in the Exhibition of Fine Arts Applied to Industry expose but especially of furniture and quite a few sculptures.
