* François-Théodore Legras (1839-1916)

is a French master glassmaker. At the age of 20, he entered the glassworks near his native hamlet as a clerk. It was there that he learned his trade. At 24, he left his native Vosges to go to work at the glassworks of Plaine Saint-Denis district of the city of Saint Denis near Paris where he was hired as a night clerk. Six months later, he became head of manufacturing and in 1866, aged 27, he became director of glassware. He then built a new modern factory and a working class city which, over the years, became an industrial complex of almost 20,000 square meters. He became Chairman and CEO of Legras et Cie, then of the Verrerie et Cristallerie de Saint-Denis. He takes part in numerous national and international exhibitions where he is very often rewarded. He was also responsible for the glassware and crystal works part of the Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris. In 1909, he ceded the management of his business to his nephew Charles Legras. He was one of the four master glassmakers at the founding of Art Nouveau with Gallé, Daum and Lalique. Very large variety of the work with considerable models of varied forms and decorations. The most used classification method is that according to decorative themes such as landscapes, flowers, fauna.
