* The Vienna bronzes:

It is especially in France that the tradition of bronze figurines from Vienna is widespread, it will be imported to Vienna by Mathias Bermann, in 1850. The latter was specialized in metal ornaments for pipes, it is on this date that he begins to melt and paint figurines. It is the beginning of the Vienna bronzes which would know a world fame. Towards the end of the 19th century, the golden age of metalworking in Vienna, many workshops were created. During the 19th century, artists created nearly 10,000 models of bronze figurines. These famous works were exported to major cities such as New York, London, and Paris. Vienna bronzes are well known for their high technical quality as well as for the great care given to detail, movement and expression. Each of these works is a unique piece, the carving is done by hand and the details differ between two pieces. (Cf Magazine ProAntic)
