Liturgical* or pluvial screed in gold-colored lamé and embroidery of gold, silver and colored threads, richly decorated with flowers and foliage, hood fringed with gold chenillettes and adorned with the IHS trigram (Iesus Hominum Salvator = Jesus Savior of Men) in the center of a radiant motif, from the early 20th century.
This screed is in good general condition and is of superb quality.

Long ceremonial vestment, open at the front, usually semi-circular in shape, worn over the alb and used for pontifical masses and other solemn ceremonies such as certain vespers, processions and benedictions of the Blessed Sacrament. Originally, the screed could include a hood, of which the hood, an application of fabric in the form of a decorated apron and edged with fringes, which it wears on the reverse, is a vestige. The screed is often bordered on the front with a braid or a strip of fabric, sometimes bearing a decoration, called orphrey. It is held closed by one or two metal buckles. The cope is often made of silk and its color varies according to the liturgical season. (see archives.cg31.fr website)
Gold: it is the color of precious light. This color is used during the most important holidays: Easter and Christmas. For "ordinary" time, also known as "Church time", the Church uses green.
