Gouache representing the portrait of a woman elegantly dressed in a sleeved dress and lace bodice, holding her small dog in her arms; at the top right the coat of arms of the Breton family of Lièpvre du Bois de Pacé*, signed M.Renault, in a gilded wooden frame decorated with a frieze of foliage, vintage late 18th-early 19th centuries.

This gouache is in good condition. It is under glass. Signed lower right.

Double coat of arms at the top: on the left coat of arms of the Lièpvre Family of Bois de Pacé, on the left probably another Breton family (perhaps Jean Arot (1654 - 1719), sieur des Hayes-Robert, receiver of fouages to the baronies of Vitré and Fougères).

coat of arms: Azure with a hare passant argent, on the chief of the same charged with three speckles of ermine sable.

The DULIEPVRE, OR DU LIEPVRE, DU BOIS DE PACÉ family belongs to the nobility of Brittany.
Guillaume du Liepvre, Sgr of Riotelais, in Pacé, and of Thébaudais, married in 1624 to Julienne le Tanneux, was in 1642, clerk of requests of the Parliament of Brittany and syndic prosecutor of Rennes. His grandson, Guillaume Duliepvre, long-time alderman of Rennes, married around 1690 Julienne du Hautbois, lady of Bois de Pacé. The latter's son, Jean-Guillaume Duliepvre, sieur du Bois de Pacé, in the diocese of Rennes, lawyer in the Parliament of Brittany, director of the hospitals of Rennes, married to Françoise de Lisle, was ennobled by letters from 1755 to the occasion of the erection in Rennes of the statue of the King. He was father of Guillaume-Nicolas Duliepvre, sieur du Bois de Pacé, born in 1718, grandfather of Augustin-Guillaume Duliepvre du Bois de Pacé, born in Rennes in 1759, receiver of the registration, great-grandfather of Achille- Mathurin du Liepvre du Bois de Pacé, born in Nantes in 1790, who married Mme Casimir Boissonnet, née Jallabert, daughter of a president of the Chamber of Notaries of Paris, and great-grandfather of Eugène-Félix du Liepvre du Bois de Pacé, born in Paris in 1835, died in 1900, who left two children. Ignace du Liepvre, chief clerk of the marble table of the Palais de Rennes, and N… du Liepvre, sieur des Ecotais, seneschal of the jurisdiction of Sainte-Mélanie, had their coat of arms automatically registered in the General Armorial of 1696 (See Brittany info site).
