Rare large pair of planters or pedestals (101 cm high) carved wood Black Forest *, representing two herons each fished a fish, among flowers and foliage of reeds, XIXth century.
These sculptures are in good condition and are very decorative in their large size.

The carved wooden objects of the Black Forest are not native to Germany but were manufactured in the Brienz region, Switzerland. The tradition of woodworking is ancestral in this region, the inhabitants perpetuate the practice of carved wood on the facades of houses, furniture or everyday objects. The sculptors excel in particular in the representation of wild animals in their natural environment. In the nineteenth century, these naturalistic sculptures of the black forest became very popular and very popular.
