* The pilgrims of Emmaus, or disciples of Emmaus, are two characters from the New Testament who appear in the Gospel according to Luke (chapter 24, verses 13 to 35). One of them is called Cleophas while the name of the other remains unknown. The city of Emmaus is a locality, near Jerusalem. Christ, who has just risen from the dead on Easter morning after his crucifixion and entombment, appears on the road to Emmaus to two disciples troubled by his death, still in doubt, who are fleeing Jerusalem. The two men offer him hospitality without acknowledging him.
