Pair of carved wooden wall brackets called Black Forest* representing a chamois head among oak leaves and acorns, from the 19th century.
These consoles are in their juice, good general condition.
A note: some small accidents and losses on the wood (on the end of the sheets and in the bottom of the consoles), old wormholes, dirt and wear of time, see photos (see red arrows).
The carved wooden objects from the Black Forest are not native to Germany but were made in the region of Brienz, Switzerland. The tradition of woodworking is ancestral in this region, the inhabitants perpetuate the practice of carved wood on the facades of houses, furniture or everyday objects. The sculptors excel in particular in the representation of wild animals in their natural environment. In the 19th century, these naturalist sculptures from the Black Forest became very fashionable and highly prized.
