Polychrome carved wooden statue representing Saint Mary Magdalene* in prayer kneeling on a cushion, from the 18th century.
This statue is in good overall condition, superb quality. It is very decorative, the polychromy is still very vivid.
Please note: missing right hand, some cracks and accidents on the wood, some lack of polychromy, wear and tear, see photos.
Mary Magdalene, Mary Magdalene, or Madeleine, called Mary Magdalene in the Gospels, was a disciple of Jesus who followed him until his last days. The four Gospels designate her as the first witness of the Resurrection, who was responsible for warning the apostles. Christian tradition and iconography draw on these canonical and apocryphal texts to give several faces of Mary Magdalene, first as the spiritual spouse of Christ and the apostle of Revelation, then from the 4th century onwards as the disowned and mocked but repentant sinner, with the Middle Ages seizing on numerous legends to create a saint.
