Decorative element, piece of carved wooden altarpiece, woodwork with flowers, 18th century
Articles
A decorative carved wooden element, a piece of altarpiece woodwork, dating from the 18th century. This piece of wood forms a floral garland; beautiful flowers and blooming roses alternate with large leaves, perfectly corresponding to the iconographic repertoire of Baroque and Rococo churches of the early 18th century.
The openwork structure indicates that this piece was a floral drop or hanging garland fixed to a contrasting background in order to highlight the relief of the decorative ensemble, typical of altarpieces of the period.
This piece is in good overall condition. It was originally polychrome (and probably gilded), only a few traces of which remain in its current state.
Note: some cracks and holes in the wood, wear and tear from age, see photos.
