Very nice seal or stamp * sterling silver chiselled decoration of flowers and foliage, stamped see photos, Art Nouveau late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

This seal is in good condition. It is punched (perhaps boar's head) and silversmith punch, punches are worn.

A report: wear and scratches from use see photos.

* Stamp: collectible copies of which the oldest dates back four millennia before our era. The seal was first used to affix the personal character of a guarantee for the contents of a box or envelope, the authenticity of a document. Was used also as the term seal. The little personal touch is in fact used in Europe since the Middle Ages. It can be a ring mounted with an intaglio of hard stone, or a kitten or engraved hollow (the signet is not something else!). But many seals hafted, formed of a hard stone engraved in intaglio: carnelian, garnet, sapphire, crystal, agate, some are even antique intaglios. These little pills are sometimes jewelry that is hung on a chain or chatelaine, such as boxes, it is often a subject of gift. These fees vary in size: one finds tiny embedded on pretty engraved gold mounts, some 1.5 to 2 cm in diameter mounted on a handful of gold, pomponne, engraved silver, of shell, hard stone, wood ...
